Identity theft in Japan
Nowadays identity theft is very common problem in this world. I never considered about it so much before I met this blog. (Thank you, Adriana!)
The lost of secret documents in big company, or some thief even destroys ban of company to steal documents of customers.
But most common identity theft is this, Internet.
For example one of the instrumental shop mistakenly displaying all lists of customer, what they bought and what they are in website for a year.
One hospital lost USB memory card which contains all information of patients. (lost….of course not, it’s stolen.)
And most common case is spreading information from some personal PC whom belongs to company.
I heard that the profit which buyer can get from list of identity is very big. Now I understand why all unknown companies such as jewelry, cosmetics, or even funeral ceremony (!) can call my phone.
Anyway, they often use it for their own advertisement.
That’s OK if they use only for their ad, because anyway I won’t buy anything from them but the problem is when they get credit card information.
Or, in Japan, now it’s like trend that criminals get these lists and call to old people, to say “Hi, how’ve you been? It’s me, your son.” And they pursue them to send money from ATM, and they actually do.
I’m not kidding, unfortunately, this is very common problem in Japan. Old parents and their son’s communication is slightly decreasing. Of course I think this is crazy, you can not even recognize they are real sons or not!
Anyway, one of the solution for these things is insure. Many companies now have various services for protecting any information from list of company to personal computer.
Also there are many computer programs which protect its information.
About credit card, we have to be always sure to get receipt and be able to always claim with proves when some mysterious lost occurs.
In the end, it’s impossible to live in the mountain totally alone, separated from this world. When we live in this world now, somehow we have to have many connections and that’s normal that your information spreads from somewhere.
I think, people had better not to be paranoia and worry too much about this. No one can make an earth quake because they got your e-mail address.
The personal consciousness and bit of attention about it, that’s the best insures.
